Abeokuta South Records 98% IGR Growth, Sets Pace in Ogun State The Ogun State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Committee has commended the Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, for the remarkable improvement in the council’s revenue performance. During a courtesy visit to the Chairman following a comprehensive audit, the committee revealed that Abeokuta South recorded a 98% increase in IGR in 2025 compared to 2024—currently the highest growth rate among local governments in Ogun State. In his response, the Chairman expressed appreciation to the committee and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy. He noted that the revenue growth was achieved without placing undue financial burden on residents and indigenes of Abeokuta South. He further assured that the council is poised to achieve even greater milestones in 2026. It will be recalled that in 2025, the administration executed several impactful projects across the local government. Notably, the construction of the Abule Oloni Pedestrian Bridge stood out as a flagship project. The administration also constructed and rehabilitated over 20 boreholes, improving access to clean water in various communities. In addition, health insurance coverage was provided for commercial motorcycle riders (Okada operators) and elderly residents, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to social welfare. Looking ahead, the council has approved and commenced the construction of a 1.3-kilometre road in Kuto, Abeokuta, as part of its ongoing infrastructure development drive.

BOA Meets Itoku Market Leaders, Warns Traders on Delayed Dues

Abeokuta, July 11, 2025 —  The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez (BOA), has called on traders at the popular Itoku Market to promptly settle their market dues or risk having their shops locked up. The chairman made this known during a meeting with market leaders and stakeholders held at the Local Government Secretariat. The delegation was led by the Iya Loja of Itoku, Chief (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Ayorinde. Hon. BOA emphasized the importance of timely payment of ground rent and other statutory levies by market traders. The vehicles were officially handed over to Necad Nero, a consulting firm led by CEO Mr. Nurudeen Adenuga, to support the Local Government’s drive for increased and transparent revenue collection. The commissioning ceremony took place at the Local Government Secretariat in Ake and was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Chief (Mrs.) Oluranti Ogunjemilusi, who represented the Chairman.
